A vibrant and inclusive Secondary School in Hackney is looking for a Teaching Assistant to start ASAP. This is a long-term opportunity supporting students with a range of needs including Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).

The Role:

  • 1:1 & Group Interventions – Support students with ASC, SLCN, and MLD to access learning through tailored, differentiated approaches.
  • Emotional Regulation & Behaviour Support – Use de-escalation strategies to create a calm, safe environment for students with SEMH needs.
  • Team Collaboration – Work with staff and professionals to implement behaviour plans.
  • Track Progress – Monitor and adapt interventions as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, especially SEMH, ASC, SLCN, or MLD.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Patient & Empathetic Nature – Resilience in the face of challenging behaviour and a compassionate mindset.
  • Team player with a willingness to contribute to a positive school culture

Desirable:

  • Team Teach / Physical Intervention training
  • Understanding of common SEN strategies, particularly for ASC, SEMH, and SLCN
  • Previous experience as a Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, or Teaching Assistant

Entry Requirements: Previous in-school experience essential. QTS is a bonus but not required. Strong spoken and written English.
